Jeff Cotto
Assistant Vice President, Sales Executive, Business Insurance
What’s your approach to working with a new client?
My approach in working with a new client is to listen to their needs and gain a firm understanding of their business and risks they face. I want to make sure the insurance product we design fits their needs and will pay if it comes time to make a claim. I am not a big fan of apples to apples quoting, and prefer to take a personalized approach to providing the best Business Insurance product possible.
What’s your favorite local activity to do?
My absolute favorite activity to do is enjoy the Cape Cod beaches, we have some of the best beaches in the world. Walking our dog, swimming and four wheeling is where it is at for me.
If you could clear up one misconception regarding the insurance industry, what would that be?
The number one misconception in the insurance industry is that insurance companies do not pay claims. This is not true. For example, a construction client called me after finding out a large piece of heavy equipment they owned had been set on fire as a result of arson. We worked with their insurance carrier and were able to present the client a check for $275,000 to replace the machine. In reality, billions of dollars in insurance claims are paid every year.
What’s your favorite food and can you cook it?
Pretty much anything grilled… I think I am pretty good with BBQ, but its definitely an art.
How do you stay current with policies and regulations regarding the insurance industry?
I stay current with policies and regulations in our industry by taking continuing education classes, reading insurance industry publications, and constantly striving to learn more about our industry. We truly learn something new in this business almost daily. The introduction of the RG Academy has also been beneficial in keeping up to date on insurance legislation and trends.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a fighter pilot growing up. Now instead of flying a Mach One, I am a desk jockey!
