How did you get into your line of work? I married into it — my husband’s father owned an insurance agency. I started by working at home when our son was still a baby, manually rating Homeowners and Dwelling Fire renewals and then typing the policies (in our dining room!) No such thing as home computers back then!
What’s your favorite food and can you cook it? Baked stuffed shrimp – could probably figure out how to make it, but have never tried!
Do you have any favorite stories from your work life? I don’t know if it’s a “favorite” but it is memorable — when I first started working in an agency, I remember typing up my first RMV1 and proudly sending the person on their way to the Hyannis RMV — only to have them come back about an hour later because I had forgotten to put the insurance stamp on it. I apologized profusely, but when they came back YET AGAIN because I had FORGOTTEN TO SIGN IT, I think I hid somewhere!
What did you want to be when you grew up? A teacher
If you could clear up one misconception regarding the insurance industry, what would that be? That we, as the agents are in the middle… the insurance company who writes the policy has the last say on everything. We are there to guide the process and ensure that the client’s needs are taken care of.
What app can you not live without? Waze – especially during our Cape Cod summers!
