One of the best elements of my job are the different events we participate in for the agency and our Foundation, which is a fund of the Cape Cod Foundation. On May 14th, the RogersGray Charitable Foundation hosted the second “Comedy for the Community” at the gorgeous Wequassett Resort and Golf Club. The event had 200+ guests in attendance enjoying wonderful food, a live steel drum band, a live and silent auction (with generously donated prizes!), and of course, a comedy show.
Amidst the entertainment from funny-man Tony V. and comedian extraordinaire (and R&G employee!) John Turco, the main function of “Comedy for the Community” was to award two grants to community organizations that fit the mission of our Foundation. The mission of the RGCF is to… “Create a positive, long-lasting impact within the communities RogersGray Insurance serves… giving is focused on the knowledge, prevention and intervention as it relates to physical safety, security and well being.”
This year, our employee-led grants committee were tasked with selecting two well-deserving beneficiaries to each receive a generous $10,000 grant. Gosnold on Cape Cod and High Point Treatment Center were selected as they are both organizations that aid in the prevention and treatment of substance abuse for the betterment of their respected communities.
In addition to the two $10,000 grants, additional funds were raised through “Fund-A-Need” donations, totaling another $11,600 to be split between Gosnold on Cape Cod and High Point Treatment Center. Finally, as the kicker, five surprise $1,500 grants were awarded to non-profit organizations that were in attendance that evening. The lucky surprise recipients were CapeAbilities, Cape Cod YMCA, Cape Cod Child Development, Health Imperatives and Center for Coastal Studies.
For those keeping track – over $38,000 in grants were awarded to local non-profits as a result of “Comedy for the Community!”
Many thanks to our wonderful sponsors and philanthropic guests for making the evening a success!
